Bulgaria 1300
The monument "Founders of the Bulgarian State" was built with special purposes and the most important one was in order to celebrate the 1300th anniversary of the Bulgarian State, founded in 681. The monument is located on the hill of the table-land around Shumen and it is built in such a way that it can be observed at either side from a distance or from close proximity.
The magnificence of the monument make it almost impossible to miss from a distance of 20 - 30 kilometres. It is connected with the ancient Bulgarian capitals Pliska and Preslav, the cult center Madara and the old Shumen fortress. The monument ‘Founders of the Bulgarian State” is built by Bulgarian specialists with professor Krum Damianov in their lead and guide troughout the building process.
The monument consists of two half-opened halls. The first hall represents the pagan period. In the hall the majestic statue of Khan Asparuh can be seen. In this hall he is shown in the moment when he shoves his sword into the ground and says: "Here to be Bulgaria, under this sky, on this land'.
The three mosaics develop the overall idea of the people's contribution to the Bulgarian history. The first one (which is on the right side) represents a victory in which the Khan and his soldiers are depicted. The second one (in the middle) reveals the adoption of Christianity and in the third one can see the educational mission of Cyril and Metodius who conceived the Slav alphabet.
