Valley of Roses
The Bulgarian Valley of Roses is one of the biggest producers of rose oil in the world. The soil and the climate in this region are highly suitable for the growth of the roses. The conditions in Kazanlak are perfect for the cultivation of the roses than those in its own country of origin - Tunisia. This applies for the rainfalls as well. The air humidity, cloudiness and precipitation in May and June contribute to obtain roses giving high percentage of oil.This phenomenon - the Rose Valley - is not a geographical name – it is just a notion, having much in common to the location where the Bulgarian rose grows. The valley’s altitude is 710m at its highest point which is called Klisoura. The climate in the Rose Valley is transitional between moderately continental and transitional continental. The rose plants usually start coming into leaf around March 10, when the air temperature settles at about 5є C and above.
The Valley of the Roses is located in central south Bulgaria. It's best reached from the city of Zagora.
The whole valley of roses is magically transformed with amazing blooms in May and early June each year when "The Festival of Roses" is celebrated. The capital of the rose growing region is Kazanlak where rose picking rituals and folklore displays are takeing place and can be seen by Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The Museum of the Rose Industry is also located in Kazanlak.

This kind of weather contributes to the flowering period to be longer, suppresses oil evaporation, and as a result the yield of oil and its quality increase.
